Birmingham’s Matt Sen took his professional record to 3 wins (3-0-0) with his victory over Kevin Williams on the March 24 edition of BCB’s Now or Never undercard at Genting Arena, Birmingham.
Sen alias ‘Slugger’ pressed his opponent throughout the fight and gave very little away as he carved out a convincing 40-36 points win.
Williams, perhaps the most fleet-footed of the two was a little unlucky not to come away with more from this intriguing bout which was also the Wiltshire cruiserweight’s pro debut. He gave a good account of himself but couldn’t quite come up with the answers to Sen’s committed, unceasing pressure tactics and searching heavy-handed combinations.
After the bout Sen, whose fighting style caught the eye of and drew positive plaudits from the two time heavyweight champion Tim Witherspoon who was in attendance on the night, said,
‘To be honest we had been training for Josh Burke who pulled out a week before fight night due to injury. We knew nothing about Kevin Williams other than he was making his debut and we heard he was a come forward style fighter, however – he was the complete opposite which resulted in a lot of chasing.”
He added, “I took lots of learning from this fight. Remaining composed and switched on. I’m quite a flamboyant style boxer but didn’t really show much of that so I’ll be bringing a lot more to my next fight.”
