McFarlane returns to face Riyaz this Saturday night.

Telford’s Nathan McFarlane made his professional debut at a packed out Villa Park on 19 May this year, fighting on the undercard of the Ryan Kelly vs. Owen Jobburn Title fight. He fought Kristian ‘Mr Reliable’ Laight in a four round contest that went all the way to the final bell.

It was a good performance by the 27 year old mohawk dreadlocked fighter. He proved that he has fast hands and can throw a range of sharp, penatrating punches. He’s fast on his feet too and able to spring in and out of range with lively footwork. He looks dangerous, moves well and hits hard.

It just so happened that on his debut McFarlane was up against a very seasoned boxer clearly buoyed by making his 294th professional appearance. On top of that Laight is a boxer who’s able to slip, block and soak up a lot of his opponent’s punches most of the time.

At the end of an exciting and well recieved encounter, Referee Shaun Messer scored the contest 40 – 36 in favour of the popular McFarlane which affirmed his dominant and very stylish display.

Next up for McFarlane, he returns to the same venue to take on 33 year old, Ibrar ‘Smokin’ Riyaz in a 4 round contest on the undercard of TOP’s ‘Savage Intentions’ Edition.

It’s an intriguing contest and is sure to be entertaining. Riyaz brings a lot of experience to the ring and doesn’t hang his chin out to dry. It will be interesting to see how McFarlane deals with an opponent like him.

Both boxers will be around the same height and the Reading fighter is known for some of his ring antics as well as his toughness, doggedness and durability.

A Riyaz win would be a big, big upset and the odds on him grabbing that would seem very unlikely. To win McFarlane will simply need a repeat of his previous impressive performance. To win well he’ll probably need to pick his punches a little bit more carefully, and try not to get caught with as many counterpunches as he was late in his last fight. And, with Riyaz in front of him, and with what Riyaz brings to the ring, he’s going to need to remain focused throughout.
